Izmir Economics Congress building was reopened in its 100th year :

The historical building of the Izmir Economics Congress, where the first economic policies of the Republic of Turkey were discussed, was reopened in its 100th year after being restored in accordance with its original form.

Speaking at the opening, Minister of Treasury and Finance Nureddin Nebati said, "We are the last in terms of the common memory of our Republic, which was destroyed in 1979 as a result of the indifference of the previous administrations, even the party founded by Gazi Mustafa Kemal, where the Izmir Economy Congress was held 100 years ago. We are resurrecting the historical building, which has a very important value," he said.

Before the proclamation of the Republic, the building where the Izmir Economy Congress was held on February 17, 1923, under the leadership of the Great Leader Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, in order to determine the economic policy of the new Turkey, remained idle for many years after it was demolished in 1979. Renovation works in accordance with the original were initiated by the Investment Monitoring and Coordination Department of the Izmir Governorship, which took action regarding the historical area. Izmir Governor's Office prepared a project to organize the Economics Congress in the same place in its 100th year. 

While the works in the historical area were taken under protection, after the building project was prepared in accordance with the original, the contractor company started the construction of the 2-storey, 14-meter-high congress centre with a cost of 83 million 55 thousand TL. February 17, 2023, the 100th anniversary of the congress The exterior of the building, which was planned to be opened in Turkey, but whose opening was postponed after the earthquakes in Kahramanmaras, was covered with stones in accordance with the period. Inside, there is a modern convention centre as well as historical documents and materials. Emphasizing that the congress building has been the bleeding wound of Izmir for years, Kosger said, “The building where the congress was held, which has a very important place in terms of Turkey and Turkish economic history, was demolished in 1979 while it was at the stage of registration by the mayor of the time, and its location would not suit the spirit of the congress for many years, such as a parking lot or the like. It has been a bleeding wound in the hearts of the people of Izmir for years.”
