First time in 12 years! Syria has re-joined the Arab League :
As a result of the negotiations held in Cairo, the capital of Egypt, it was announced that Syria returned to the Arab League after years.
The foreign ministers of the Arab League member countries met in Cairo, the capital of Egypt, where the union's headquarters is located, before the Arab League Summit to be held in Saudi Arabia on May 19.
'WE WILL HAVE A SOLUTION :
During the meeting, which was closed to the press, it was decided to return Syria to the union in the voting made by the foreign ministers of the member countries. Thus, Syria will have returned to unity after a 12-year hiatus. With this decision, Syrian delegations will be accepted to unity meetings.
In a report in the Saudi newspaper Al Majalla, it was stated that Syria's return to the Arab League was conditional on taking steps to resolve the civil war in the country.
According to the Iraqi official news agency INA, Iraqi Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Ahmed al-Sahaf stated, "At the Arab Foreign Ministers' Meeting, an agreement was reached regarding Syria's re-admission to the Arab League." Egypt and the Arab League have yet to issue a formal statement.
SUSPENDED IN 2011 :
Syria's membership in the Arab League was suspended after President Bashar Assad ordered a crackdown and violent intervention against anti-government activists in the country's civil war that began in 2011.
THE CHIEF ARRIVED IN SHAM ON MAY 3 :
The decision came just after Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi landed in Damascus on 3 May. The Tehran administration, which sent its foreign or other ministers to Damascus in previous years, is making a visit to the head of state for the first time.
IMPORTANT ISSUES HAVE BEEN ADDRESSED :
The Syrian media headlined the visit, 'Iranian President Ibrahim Reisi has arrived at Damascus Airport for a two-day official visit'. The President's entourage, according to Iran's official news agency IRNA, includes Foreign, Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, as well as ministries of energy, finance, military, road and development, communications, and the state's governor of Iran's Central Bank.
On the other hand, in March, Iran and Saudi Arabia resumed diplomatic relations after seven years under the leadership of China. The world press wrote about the development that China took a more active role in the region than the USA.
WHAT IS THE ARAB UNION?
The union has 22 members, including Palestine, which it recognizes as an independent state.
The agenda of the union at the time of its establishment was the liberation of the still colonial Arab states and to prevent the Jewish community in Palestine from establishing a Jewish state.
The Council, the highest body of the Union, consists of representatives of countries, mostly foreign ministers, and permanent delegates.
Each state, regardless of size, has one vote in the council, which meets twice a year, in March and September.
The daily work of the Union is carried out by the general secretary, the governing body, the executive board of the council and the specialized ministries.
The effectiveness of the Arab League has always been the subject of discussion due to the disagreements between its members on regional and global issues.
