Up to the end of 2023, the Motor Vehicles Tax (MTV) has been quadrupled for newly registered vehicles and vehicles registered to existing traffic. So, will the early payer of Motor Vehicle Tax be affected by the increase? Hayrettin Ertemel, President of Istanbul Motor Vehicle Dealers Association (IMAS), answered the curious question.

Motor Vehicles Tax (MTV) has been increased for newly registered cars and vehicles registered to existing traffic till the end of 2023, according to Milliyet.com.tr :

ADDITIONAL MTV WILL BE APPLIED TO ALL VEHICLES :

Additional Motor Vehicles Tax will only be paid once in 2023. The additional MTV will apply to all vehicles, regardless of whether the vehicle is brand new or registered to traffic. . So, will the early payer of Motor Vehicle Tax be affected by the increase? Hayrettin Ertemel, President of Istanbul Motor Vehicle Dealers Association (IMAS), answered the curious question.

WHAT DOES MTV DOUBLE MEAN?

Ertemel used the following statements in his statement: "Our Ministry of Treasury and Finance has announced that 2 times MTV will be charged for once only, for all newly registered and currently registered motor vehicles.

In other words, MTV, which will be collected in July and next January, will be collected twice for one time only.

Since the decision is very new, it would be wrong to interpret it clearly, as we do not have additional information about payment methods, installment opportunities or which vehicles it will cover.

'WE WILL BE PAID TWICE FOR ONE TIME' :

For now, it is agreed that the motor vehicle tax, including all motor vehicles, namely land, air and sea vehicles, will be paid twice for one time only in July and January.

Although the details of this application to be made have not been disclosed yet, some speculations about the results are shared through the press and social media.

In the new period, important steps are being taken in order to ensure price stability in a way that concerns every sector and to quickly eliminate the deficiencies in business operations.

In terms of the budgets created, the need for additional resources is inevitable in order to eliminate the financial deficiencies. We believe that a one-time double collection application may have been made in MTV, both as a source for the planned budget and a much more minimal additional expense for our citizens, rather than an increase in the SCT, which is one of the important reasons for the price increases in automobiles.

HOW WILL THE CALCULATION BE DONE?

The legal MTV amount for the Fiat Egea base package 1.4 petrol car is 3,683 TL for the months of July and January. For now, we can say that this amount will be collected as double without additional information. This will be higher for cars that fall into the higher MTV segment and will again be doubled.
